Tides of Self

Being by the sea makes me a different person
Calmer
More relaxed
More myself
I do nothing I would not otherwise do
Yet here it feels new and fresh
Like the beach is new and fresh
After each tide rolls in
Scouring away the debris of the day to reveal a surface both fresh and ancient
Am I scoured fresh by the sea?
Is who I was blown away like a frit?
Was it always so ephemeral, being them?
And if they, so ephemeral, can affect me thus
Who does that make me then?
As changeable as the sea
As hard to grasp
In constant flux
Ever changing
Then I am a woman
A woman’s nature to be as the sea
To change with their seasons
Responding to the weather of ourselves
The storms of others
I come to the sea and it reveals me
